Beacon Rise Primary School

A trio of bespoke stainless steel sculptures commissioned by Beacon Rise Primary School in Kingswood. Featuring a badger, a chicken and chick, and a fan-tailed dove to inspire students and celebrate Bristol's heritage.

Commissioned by Beacon Rise Primary School in Kingswood, this trio of stainless steel sculptures was created to enhance the school's grounds and support their mission of providing a "secure, stimulating, and memorable" environment.

Installed along a curved brick wall, the artwork serves as a daily point of interaction for the students. The choice of stainless steel is a deliberate nod to Bristol’s rich engineering legacy—the city famous for Concorde and the SS Great Britain. Set against the school's Victorian architecture and panoramic views, the metalwork bridges the natural world with local industrial heritage, built to be a permanent and tactile addition for generations of children.

The installation features three distinct subjects, each carrying a specific symbolic meaning for the school community:

The Chicken & Chick: A heavily textured, bead-welded hen walking protectively alongside her young chick. This pairing represents the nurturing care and growth fostered within the school.

The Badger: Captured mid-stride as it navigates the brickwork, the badger connects the children to the native wildlife found in the surrounding fields.

The Fan-Tailed Dove: Included to bring an enduring sense of peace and spirit to the school grounds.
