“A recycled steel sculpture of the Greater Bird of Paradise, created for Sir David Attenborough as a tribute to his work in natural history.”
The Greater Bird of Paradise (Paradisaea apoda) is famed for its elaborate courtship displays and the iridescent beauty of its plumage. This sculpture was created as a personal gift for Sir David Attenborough—a tribute to his lifelong dedication to the natural world and his specific fondness for this remarkable species.
In a nod to the themes of conservation and renewal, the bird was entirely sculpted from recycled stainless steel salvaged from an old bin. The metal was reworked to capture the delicate, fan-like feathers and the dramatic display posture that defines the species. This piece holds a special place in my heart, marked by a cherished hand-written letter of thanks from Sir David himself.
