Griffin Vulture

Gyps fulvus

A life-sized European Griffon Vulture sculpture in steel. A private commission capturing the power and intricate plumage of this majestic raptor.

This private commission is a life-sized study of the European Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus), one of the largest birds of prey in the world. With a wingspan designed to dominate the space, the sculpture focuses on the vulture's distinctive posture—its broad, primary feathers fanned out to show the sheer scale of its reach.

Vultures are nature's ultimate recyclers, playing a vital role in their ecosystems. To reflect this, I utilised steel to recreate the complex layering of their plumage and the sharp, hooked beak characteristic of the species. The piece balances the bird's raw, scavenged aesthetic with the structural elegance of its flight form, resulting in a permanent steel tribute to this often-misunderstood raptor.
