Masks

Homo sapiens

A series of fragmented human face masks in stainless steel. These sectional sculptures explore medical imaging and the psychology of identity.

Created over the course of several years, this series of anthropomorphic human face masks explores the delicate balance between recognition and abstraction. Each mask is constructed from sectional fragments of the face, breaking down the human likeness into its fundamental components—eyes, nose, and lips—suspended in a network of steel supports.

This technique of fragmentation evokes the language of medical imaging and diagnostics, where the body is often viewed in "slices" or isolated parts. By using stainless steel, the sculptures gain a cold, reflective quality that shifts between looking like a protective armature and a psychological fracture. The masks do not just depict a face; they invite the viewer to consider the person behind the form, asking how much of our identity remains when the exterior is pulled apart.
