“A custom stainless steel community noticeboard created for St Andrews Park, Bristol. Features integrated wildlife sculptures including a blackbird and local flora.”
Commissioned on behalf of the Friends of St Andrews Park (FoSAP) in Bishopston, Bristol, this bespoke stainless steel noticeboard serves as a durable, low-maintenance, and highly visible communication hub for the local community.
FoSAP is a passionate local group dedicated to protecting and enhancing St Andrews Park, working on everything from pond renovations to wildlife conservation. To reflect their commitment to the park's biodiversity, I integrated a variety of small, intricate stainless steel sculptures into the frame of the noticeboard, transforming a functional object into a celebration of local flora and fauna.
Visitors checking the board for community events or volunteer opportunities might spot a blackbird perched proudly on top, a beautifully textured pine cone and conker nestled in the corners, or a delicate poppy complete with a visiting bee. Other hidden details include a snail slowly making its way up the frame, alongside a slug, damselfly, bat, devil's coach horse beetle, and frog. These whimsical touches bring a sense of delight and discovery to a practical piece of community infrastructure.
