“A sprawling architectural sculpture installed in the library of King's Forest Primary School. Features burnished steel panels, inspirational quotes, and 3D wildlife sculptures.”
Serving as the creative centerpiece for the King's Forest Primary School library, this expansive installation transforms the room's exposed red structural I-beams into a dynamic, educational frieze.
The artwork is mounted on a series of burnished stainless steel backplates, which feature swirling grind marks that catch and reflect the light like moving water or wind. Cut directly into these plates are inspirational quotes such as "Our Wonderful World," "In the beginning was the word...," and "The longest journey starts with a single step".
Interacting with these texts are highly detailed, 3D stainless steel sculptures that take the students on a journey across the globe:
The Coasts & Oceans: A heavily textured marine iguana crawls along the upper beams, sharing the space with a swimming sea turtle and an intricate octopus.
The Wetlands & Rivers: A dynamic underwater scene features a sleek diving bird pursuing a fish, followed closely by a beautifully detailed, web-footed platypus.
The Canopy & Undergrowth: Students looking closely will spot a wide-eyed tarsier clinging to a stem alongside a frog, a giant prehistoric dragonfly, and a stag beetle encountering a smaller insect on a leaf stamped with the word "Imagine".
Paired with a trail of cut-out footprints representing the journey of reading, this installation ensures that the walls of the library are as engaging and story-driven as the books on its shelves.
