Atlantic Puffins

Fratercula arctica

Life-sized stainless steel sculptures of Atlantic Puffins. A detailed study of the "sea parrot," capturing their iconic bills and social character.

In this life-sized study, I used stainless steel to capture the compact, robust frame of the Atlantic Puffin. The metal is worked to reflect the dense, weather-resistant layering of their feathers, while the bold geometry of their bills is brought into sharp relief. By presenting them as a pair, the sculpture emphasizes the social bonds and shared vigilance essential for life in the harsh Atlantic elements. The reflective nature of the steel suggests the shimmering spray of their coastal habitat, freezing their animated presence in a permanent, tactile form.
